Lafayette I’m familiar with depression And well acquainted with despair. I’ve faced thoughts of days ahead Without ability to care. I’ve thought I lacked contributions And felt I could never belong – But to take lives of innocents, Destroying those who’ve done no wrong? These days, I live outside the swamps But in my heart, I never leave. I don’t yet know these victims’ names But they’re my people… and I grieve. Last night, a gunman opened fire in a Lafayette, Louisiana movie theatre. Two are dead and nine others were wounded. The gunman killed himself when police arrived. |

SO sad Suthern. When will it end? Mystery why so many do this lately. Most turn out to be suffering from illness and still no help for them. Best to you. Have missed your words. Jo Perry |

Ahhh . . . Used to work out of Lafayette when I worked offshore . . . Not sure "helping" the mentally ill would stop much of this kind of violence. Some refuse the help, and some just go through the motions with therapy, et al. Also, it a monkey see, monkey do attitude with much of it. ~*~ When they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Seems this situation is always on the news anymore. Makes one afraid to go out in public. Ida |

Jo: Thank you so much, sweet lady! Jerry: Monkey see, monkey do is probably involved, considering the timing. Thank you for reading. Ida: This one hit home - I've been in that movie theatre. Thank you! The victims have been identified as Mayci Breaux, 21, and Jillian Johnson, 33. Mayci was a student at LSU Eunice. Jillian was a talented musician and artist. She was a member of The Figs, a local band. |

Beautiful piece, my friend, about a terrible event. At least the gunman is where all such people should be - no judge, jury or trial, except by God - - - DEAD. Thanks for your words, your heart. Jimmy |

Thank you, James and Jimmy... I appreciate your read and kind comments. As the funerals for these ladies are held today, I think a lot of people feel as I do: no matter what part of Louisiana you may actually live in or be from, today, we're all from Lafayette. |

A subject so raw with emotion, not many would write a poem about. You have written a poem that shows the strength of poetry and what writing of any kind should be for,be it music, play or book,to show we care and we feel,it is a condition of empathy and here you have shown yours in abundance with respect.... Thank you Suthern love... Goldenrose walk the moonlight path through the dark woods...i await your return.. |
