To Laugh Instead of Scream

many deem the comics
a great big waste of time
but if one was to read them
they’d see that they reflect the clime

the customs of the land
can be found in nearly ev’ry one
and if one cannot laugh at life
then s/he’s nearly done

for tears can come and go
and take a toll on any’s life
but releasing all that stress
is a semblance to survive

it helps one pause
and find a way to take another look
another kind of perspective
can ease a mind that’s shook

the culture of a people
its foibles and its flaws
are dealt with in the comics
and weakens well its straws

for the stress of living
and dealing with humanities quirks
is eased and sometimes compensated
by psychological perks

help me see the consternation
from a different point of view
to laugh at what I cannot change
and strengthen what I choose to do

You betcha, Virginia, took me a long time before I could laugh at life. You are also correct about the comics and how they mirror the way society has evolved, or sometimes devolved.
