Fair to middlin' of nowhere

“I want to swim
with dolphins
before I die.
It is on my bucket list”
I said so
just this mornin’.
Then I began to cry.
It seemed to me
there was next to nothin’
on that list.
I have come
to a point of thinkin’
it wouldn’t  have mattered
what was on the list,
ain’t none of it
is gonna happen.

The list is drawn
with a stick in the sand
of my shiftin’ imagination.
My day to day
don’t  include
a corner of
this’ll get me there.
No savin’ this dime
for a rainy day
or dolphin.
No special wish written
tucked away in a little trinket box.

Lookin’ forward to the future
through my fingers.
As if the filtered vision
would spare me
some anxiety.
I am my own toxicity.
I place no bets
on longevity.

Time catches up
then passes us by.
Too late for this
or that,
it is our time to die.

I enjoy your observations from day to day. I see you’re little down today.
Cheer up. My wife and I created a bucket list we can live by.
1] Avoid Kicking the Can
2] Do not Buy The Farm
3] Continue a Life of Leisure
4] Change Oxygen into Carbon Dioxide each and every day
5] Remember to Wake Up every morning and after every nap

Do not give up your dreams you are a young woman. Who really knows what is in store for you? We give up too much of ourselves to others and that is a good thing. But one day you  will wake up and say "Who am I" Make a list of one thing you would like to do and find a way to do it. Later  make another list of one and do it. In time your life will be a bit different. Make one new "friend" along the way. Not another acquaintance but a person you can admire and become life "time friends" with. Change your book list and read something different. Life has so much to offer if e only we open our eyes and ears. Best to you.Jo

Don't personally have a bucket list.  Sure, there are things I'd like to see, places I'd like to go, things to do ... but most important is blessing every morning I can put my feet on the floor, stand up and go about the day, and praying I'm back at it the next morning, taking the each day for what ever I'm able to accomplish - whether it be a trip, sitting on the porch or watching TV - healthy and alert.  And one way or the other, I make myself stay busy (although a lot of those morning when I put my feet on the floor is ugh, and ouch, and groan this or that and desire to just flop back down on the bed and wait for tomorrow morning instead!

Enjoyed, my fried.

I guess we've all felt like that at one time or another.  Now days I'm content with whatever is.  Striving and wishing for is so exhausting and at the end of the day we're still left with just ourselves and that self is, I guess, how we choose it to be - something like that.

My dear wonderful friends!!!
My goodness. how special you all are!! Your kind and thoughtful words sooth my heart and clear my mind. It is so like me to get in a tizzy about something that, upon closer inspection, isn't such a bug-a-boo after all.
Thank you for calling me back into the flock as I was fixing to go whining into the wilderness. Ya'all are the best!! ~L

Hi Lori - your writing reminds me that one of my bucket list before (my only one) is to write a bucket list...must be the bucket is full of holes since I haven't even started to do one. So maybe when I get to list some do's, get to finish them, I can put down my pen, spread my arms and say. "Lord, you can now dismiss your servant in peace:"

jjote,
I'm glad I tickled a memory! That reminds me I wrote a poem somewhere about a hole in a bucket...hmmm...think I'll take a look around.
Thanks! ~L
