let’s face it
may as well be honest about it
all of our troubles
in life
we can trace back
and understand
we had a hand in it all
we put ourselves
in dire situations through
our own misguided choices
and then lament the consequences
we are our own constellation
simply put
we scourge ourselves
seeking the light
when it is darkness all along
we desire
we play a dangerous game
filling our pockets with stones
and walk into the water
seeking a myriad of
heretofore unknown pleasures
eh . . . and when things go wrong
we have the audacity
to forget it was our own
choice to allow these wrongs
to come into our lives

I used my own choices
my own life
to write this poem
although I used the word “we”

I think the "we" is appropriate, Jer.  Many will relate to these words.

"..in dire situations through
our own misguided choices.."
~yes we do..and with almost shiny
eyes- as we wade in..
*sighs

"..we play a dangerous game
filling our pockets with stones
and walk into the water.."
~Awesome power in this image! The
impending "sink" lures even us stubborn
souls to the deep water.

"We" applies just right here, Jerry
kudos sweetie, this is all truth &
applies at diff points within my bungle
of years as well..(love this)

Awww, Tanya, and about that deep water, the stones were symbols of my very misguided choices, especially within those two lost decades of mine. I came close, very close to sinking into oblivion more than once. Eh . . . but I managed to wind up here through it all. I'm very happy that I did.

This is so true. If only more would think this way the world might be a better place.

I couldn't agree more WindWalker12. Unfortunately it took me quite a number of years before I understood it myself. Thanks for being here.

I have a drink coozie that sez
"I didn't say it was your fault.         I said I was blaming you!"

I know I dig all my own dark holes.

Oh, I am/was very good at digging my own dark holes, Lori. I'm now at a place in life where I can finally be honest with myself about my life and my mistakes. Someone a few years ago help steer me to where I am now. If I ever see her in person I'm going to hug her for what she did.

I guess that's what life is about, Jerry. Learning.
