Taste Like Chicken

Nutria was always a favorite of mine.
White meat, big, almost tasteless by itself,
but add some spices,
fry it up, or stew it down,
man, oh, man,
stomach churning good . . .
until my wife found out
it wasn't rabbit,
I was cooking.

Squirrel and deer.
Now there's an acquired taste,
seems like I always get enough
just before I eat.
Nothing against it,
and I'm certain what I've said
will cause a stink,
but for sure,
and most definitely,
it's an acquired taste.

Raccoon and Possum –
well, each to his own,
I have had both,
and unless I'm really
down and out –
they don't have to live
in fear of me.

Horse Meat – not too bad,
especially as canned dog food.
Dog and cat – tried in Hong Kong
Beef Steak too, so they said . . .
thank God I was in the Navy,
and didn't have to live
on that.

Lots of other things,
too numerous to mention,
have been in my digestive tract.
Some made it through,
and some flew out,
the way it came in.

I've never wimped out
on trying something new,
but ah . . . in the end,
I've found time and again,
with the first belch,
no matter how they went in,
the last sound I hear is
cluck, cluck, cluck.

The mark of a good writer in my books is diversity....This little gem here is definitely off the beaten path of topics. Of course you mastered it as per your usual. Took me a while to remember what Nutria was.
From your title I was expecting to read about frog legs. Rats! ~L

Nutria, et al Jimmy I have tasted down here in the swamp, and heck I grew up eating barbecued possum. I, like you, don't shun away from much of anything. If you'll cook it, I'll try it. 'Course I do believe I would have to say no to dog if I knew in advance that was what was presented to me.

rofl..animals to everyone who wants 'em...I applaud the cluck of things and leave the rest alone...

Recently found out that I apparently ate a lot of deer meat as a kid, being told it was pork in my noodles! lol
(mean fact)

enjoyed! be well.
