Houston commercial photography

Flag fluttering in the breeze
a stalwart Marine saluted it as it passed by
the first of many Flags
many salutes
in the parade which passed us by
I, too, saluted Old Glory
although not as brisk as I had once upon a time
I glanced back at the Marine
he, like so many others
Marine proud
his mouth was grimaced tight
he blinked tears from his eyes
so many, just like this very Marine
has fallen
in so many battles
in so many wars
in so many God-forsaken places
in so many distant foreign soils
mothers' and dads' tears
were shed
back to the parade
wasn't very many who came out to watch
this, the honoring of our veterans dead
for shame
far too many are barbecuing
some prime ribs
guzzling down beer after beer
Memorial Day to far too many
give not a thought
to all those who fell in battle keeping
our country safe
unfortunately we now live
in a country I do not recognize
schools ban the American Flag in classrooms
for it may offend someone
can’t recite the Pledge of Allegiance
sad, oh so very sad
the old saying, Freedom isn't Free
will someday come home to many
in years to com
as America turns our Constitution
upside down
but today we can still fly the flag
unless some policeman
or politician comes to tell us
we can't

So true, Jer.  There seems to be no "memorial" left in Memorial Day.  Kids today aren't even taught what the holiday represents.  "freedom isn't free," and there's a reason we never get the bill...someone else has already paid for it.

Yeah, you are so right, Michael, this country is disintegrating. Thanks for the feedback . . .
