a life like mine the roaming, wayfaring existence n'er settling down always searching for . . . that then is the question misplaced for after awhile I forgot what my search was for during my travels I saw things human beings could do to one another my heart began to harden refused to thaw although three wives other women tried to melt my hard-edged look upon the world they all tried in vain but in the places I had been and what I saw caused me to understand that riches and everything that went with it beautiful mansions in themselves could never be called a home much too late I discovered that the most primitive dwelling if love was inside its walls was most assuredly was a home I freely admit in all my wanderings I never found a home my attitude killed what it took to make a house a home I'm very regretful about that part of my life so . . . here I sit inside this dwelling I call The Hovel penning this little poem and o'er the years I have written my poems, my novels the novels I am proud of but you see it is the poetry which finally put love into my heart as you read this I am inside The Hovel with my precious little dog Zoe on Christmas Eve and yes The Hovel is now a home ©December 24, 2014 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ When politicians give up on liberty, it falls to poets to preserve it. fine "slice of one's life" write ... reminds me of the lasting 'damage' of the "Great Darkness" (Nam era) and especially the effect on anyone who walked along the wall of skulls in Cambodia. I've never found a 'real and lasting' "home" either (at least not psycho-emotionally, etc.) |

Ahh, Bruce I understand what you mean about never finding a home. But you see where I am, and how my attitude has drastically changed I have all I need right here and now and it is a home. Would that I had a women to share it. Of course, but I am very happy and I have peace of mind. Thanks for the read and comment. ~*~ When politicians give up on liberty, it falls to poets to preserve it. Or write its epitaph. ~*~ |

I wrote when I first read your poetry that you bled honesty. You have carved your soul into this poetry site, and it has made a mark. Merry Christmas, Jerry. |

Never too late, as they say. Some of us are just "late starters" --- but think of the "fun" getting there!! j. |
