HOUSE AND GARDEN ARE HAPPY AGAIN Joyful sounds of children playing ring out again from over the wall house and garden rejoice together as they listen, delighted, to each child’s call. Previously filled with glorious song, but oh, how they longed for more than this, for children’s voices and games and fun to fill them both with happiness. May they stay forever and a day to bless the house and garden so for the secret treasure of leisure and pleasure is a blessing that only children know. Owl |

a particularly great truth in the fine ending line ... "the secret treasure of leisure and pleasure is a blessing that only children know." |

Ahhh . . . Great wisdom in the eyes of the innocent . . . ~*~ When politicians give up on liberty, it falls to poets to preserve it. Or write its epitaph. ~*~ |

Thank you Bruce and Jerry. I wrote this very simply and gave it a very simple title because the new next door children are Zulu-speaking and English is their second language and they are all very young. They were thrilled with it. The previous owners sold the house and it stood empty for a while (I wrote a poem about the house's pain at missing them and their children). Then new owners bought it and again for about 3 years, there was the sound of the children playing in the garden and the house and garden were happy again. Then they left and rented the house out to a men's church and operatic choir. Their voices were exquisitely beautiful when I heard them practising individually or simply bursting into song spontaneously. However there were no children. They were there only for about 6 months and a lovely new family are renting now. There are 4 young children. Hopefully they will be there for a long time. They hope so too. Owl |

Diana, Indeed it is the children who make life's beautiful wealth prove it's worth. We see it in their smiles and laughter,we see it in the healthy bodies as they play and and through there minds as the make up situations and stories to carry out their play. A delightful poem Diana.I am with you on this. Love to you, Jo |

I read too much into poems, but a life without children is so harsh. More than harsh. |

I had 2 children of my own, Redstart, but they have grown up and left home long ago and have families of their own. (I am 69 glorious years old, lol!) But I need to hear children playing next door, lol! Thanks for reading and commenting! Owl |
