'Deep-Time' Dreams While the evening wind sings its sad refrain to the dying year, shadowy moonbeams and all wild things hold their breath, for even the land listens close to the primal harmonies of wilderness and eternity when the leather-brown leaves and flakes of snow begin their dance to Winters tune as they have a hundred million years before. Away with the vanity of men, for we are but lost and lonely, wandering children through this ancient world of 'Deep-Time' dreams. --- b. e. adams (12/5/2014) |

Enjoyed this poem concerning the dying of this year and the birth of the next one. Have we learned anything from this passing year which will make 2015 a better time for us? If history is any indicator, we have not. I loved your subtle touches throughout your poem, Bruce. They touched me. If they give you ruled paper write sideways. |

Thank you, JP ! ... What has humanity learned ?! ... beats me ! The older I've gotten, the more I've had to defer to H.D. Thoreau who may have summed it up for all time with ... "All my knowledge only brings me ever that much closer to my ignorance" Men think they 'know' many things But lo, they have taken wings All the 'arts' and the 'sciences' And myriad appliances ... The wind that blows Is far, far more than any man truly 'knows' ... and though it may be a cliche, unfortunately, it 'rings true' ... Individuals (and nations) that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it |

Beautiful in its melancholy, dear Bruce! Sometimes we feel lonely and lost, but we are children of eternity. You see and describe the beauty of nature masterfully. We are part of the Whole and this truth is overwhelming. Margherita |

Thank you, Margherita! I hope I sometimes give fine 'voice' to Nature and a strong hint for environmental stewardship aside from any philosophic point(s) that might be 'surfing' upon the cascading natural imagery, etc. |
