Then and Now=Nostalgia Grabbed a phone call for a dime sent a penny post card for a time A nickel bought an ice cream cone When ticked twas okay to pick a bone Gasoline was under a quarter And $300/month was a great starter This was back when all poems would rhyme And seasoning consisted of much less thyme Yes, salt and pepper were the then go to… And gourmet cooking was what prime chef’s do Now $100/a month for a phone in your pocket And a locket less likely hangs around your neck By heck or high water wouldn’t eat from a can Unless you grew up not knowing a pot from a pan You look at the sky from a 5 x 7 iPad ‘stead of lifting your chin to see God’s bounty We click on the screen for our friends who comply with the way of the world to send and reply Rhyming is in and then it is out Phishing is sin and we have to watch out We seldom are sure what’s worthy of report and resort to compellingly telling for sport So what do we do when penning our poe’s we record all our words in the style of prose ©Virginia Salter 10/2/14 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, I'll seek the lighthouse evermore. |

Yep. A lot of difference then and now, but when you really think about it not all that much has changed. We just have different things to play with. I recall when television first was put in people's homes. It was said that it was the devil's tool and we would rue the day. Well . . . Maybe they were right, everything we hold dear has come after, and because of, the television. If they give you ruled paper write sideways. |

Vas so nice to see you here. We have been looking for you who wrote so often to come back and rejoin those of us have hung on. Yes being from way back in the 1930s I have also seen a lot of new ways but I have to adjust and must say I love the ability to keep up with scattered family members. I have also connected with many family members I had not known before. Welcome back, JO |

I just had to bring this back up! It was an exceptionally good read deserving of many more hits. 88's friend She told me "play one for your supper Danny and maybe you'll get breakfast". |

Thanks, all, especially Ticklefingers for resurfacing this, I've not read it in over a year, myself. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

yep - remember when $10.00 more than filled my 4-4-2's 20gal. gas tank, bought me and my flame a deluxe sea-food dinner, and took us to see the grand-opening of The Exorcist; and that when we were complaining about the rising prices of things! Enjoyed VAS... j. |
