What do I see when I peer about; Certainly nothing the worth of going out. A sparkle here and a sparkle there Distracts away from what’s smudged and smeared, A twinkle here and a twinkle there Is all that’s left of what was once so endeared. I am not interested in what they know There is nothing said that makes me want to go. A flashing here and a flashing there The red and blue attempts to control through the night A killing here and a killing there, Death has no caring of the good and bad, wrong or right, A body here and a body there. I retreat to only watch the things they think are news, With despair here and despair there, I don’t watch and don’t share any of those views. Magical garden what do you grow, How to make such beauty I want to know, I leave your blossom to see next time And carry the image in my mind, Remembering the sweet fragrance And on a breeze your swaying dance, Can you overtake my memory So once again it is beauty I will see. A footprint here and a footprint there, Trudging from place to place to place Another here and another there, Where did they leave their smiling face? I look out and am blinded by the light, Those actions are parts of a greater fright, Caused by the day and honed in the night, With violence here and violence there, Desperation causes the manifestation, No confession will end the demonstration, Everything is lost in translation. Sounds like you've been listening to the news. I, too, have wondered how to see beauty when it seems so bleak. Good poem. Keep writing, my friend. Misc |
