God's Plan Sometime, between birth and now, I lived, I loved… and then I died. I lost the will to see the good things, to believe in positives, to have a heart, and soul. Somewhere between yesterday and today, I courted some philosophy… ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’. I saw a certain amount of truth there, picked up the phone, knowing you had an unlisted number, couldn't take calls, maybe couldn't talk anyway, But I wanted to try, so I could do unto you as I'd like you to do unto me - Then I loaded my gun . . . Refilled the water I'd emptied from it's chamber, snuck into the living room where our 5 year old son was hiding, leaned over the couch and soaked his face with the ice cold liquid. We laughed, and we hugged, and he asked if mommy would have enjoyed that, and I said, she would have, and she would not have given up until the two of us were soaking wet. The two of us, that used to be three, before you got an unlisted number, couldn't take calls, maybe couldn't talk anyway. God's plan, I guess. God's plan – to leave two of us, not three. w. james beard, jr. august 2014 |

I think marriage should be outlawed. It never will, it is just one more way to raise money. Sad bit of poetry, buddy. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

LOL @ Jerry ....I can't argue with that! Marriage is a human construct...not a "natural" state...not without any virtue....but it has at it's heart the maxim that those that enter the marriage arrangement are committed, monogamous and solely driven/dedicated to the family as unit...humans are straight up too selfish to fit the construct....I shouldn't say all humans....but most of us ...just are not made for it...thus all those unsuccessful marriage statistics.... Just my 2 cents!

There are some things we, as humans, will never be able to comprehend. I am squeamish to reply to this because of how deeply this cut at me... but after my father died I kept finding little personality traits and facial expressions that were his in my 5 year old son. To me, my father still lived in him and through him. That was a great comfort to me. Embracing it helped me to move forward. Not sure if this helps, Jimmy, but the sincerity of this piece moved me to try. Take care my friend. Michael |

I really appreciate, as always, all the reads and comments - especially when they're from some of my favorites in the poetic world - people - even through the fogginess of my bashfuless (to keep from using some Psychological term to make me sound sick - I'd love to meet, if just for a cup of coffee. But, as always, and especially in reply to Michael, who, among a bunch of you, I make a point to read whenever in these blue pages, I again iterate: " "Please don't assume everything I write is based on my personal life" Very, very little of it is, and I can recall only a piece here or there that was mostly, wholly, written in that fashion. Most pieces are pulled from the wonderful variety of life surrounding me, whether it be derived from a family member, word in a book, bird in flight, sounds I hear, tears in an eye or where ever. This piece, specifically, came from an idea (tag)I had to write another (while trying not to be "trite" about it) love/sad/spiritually touched piece and specifically say someone had died without using common language. And in my mind, hopefully in yours, I accomplished that through the lines . . . " . . . knowing you had an unlisted number, couldn't take calls, maybe couldn't talk anyway,". Anyway, that was the origination "Tag" for this piece and nothing about it is, in reality, about me. Sorry for the long-windedness; just wanted to clarify a little about how I write, - my subject matter generally being Life, but, almost never, my personal life or experience. (Laugh, my friends, that's what I do the most!!) jimmy [This message has been edited by jwesley (08-09-2014 10:09 AM).] |

Lol... well it's happened in reply to me on more than one occasion, but it's a relief nonetheless. Glad all is ok with you, Jimmy. Michael |

Oh, Jimmy I knew the minute I read the gun part that you had told us all before that you write from life experiences but not your own.You do this so well that I often forget.Like Michael you touch me many times with your words.I just have to remember you see the world and people around you with amazing insight. Best to you, jo |

What a wonderful poem! Whether divorce or death leaves two when there should be three, parents have to keep trying, have to keep doing. |
