One hundred years have come and gone Her mind now weak, but body strong. Her thoughts are in a cloud of haze Trying to remember her golden days. Rich history embedded in her heart. Memory fading it's hard to start. She tells some stories of days gone by Of joyful tales and sad good-byes. So ask many questions and listen well To all the stories our elders tell. We need to record our heritage past As memories fade and don't always last. |

I hear you, Eloise, When the mind begins to take little trips into the past, we should be able to sit and listen to the old ones (I'm there 73). Sometimes they can come up with very interesting tales, I saw my dear departed wife's mother out and out embarrass all four of her daughters bringing up thing they had never heard her speak of. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

No doubt about it, our elders may loose short term memory quicker then loosing past long ago memories. And we should never underestimate there knowledge and wonderfuls stories they share. I used to work with elderly people and always loved those kind of stories. I loved your writing here and enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing. |

Thanks. I'm in the process of doing some genealogy on my dad's side. He's now 90 and I wished I would have done more inquiring earlier as he has forgotten a lot and mixes dates up. However, we have made a lot of progress and am glad that I am getting information now. |

This brought to mind a memory of my niece taking notes for a class project as her PaPa told stories of his life during WWII ... and how much we all value those notes because we lost him before that class finished. Beautiful write! |
