I'm almost certain I will die In a thunderstorm from the sky. It will be my finest hour, Oh, don't do that, look so dour. I will have lived large in my time, So, it's okay, church bells can chime, Though I'm not a religious man, But the Golden Rule I'm a fan. It's what we do before we go That gives us gladness, maybe woe. Some will say, why'd it take so long, Others will sob o'er my bones. What can I say, what can I do? Maybe they're right, I'm overdue. I do know for a natural fact, I lived my life, not in abstract. Have I really given my best? No, not me, I've lived life in jest. We're all given our DNA's, It pulls and prods like we're its prey I'm almost certain I will die In a thunderstorm from the sky. It will be my finest hour, Oh, don't do that, look so dour. ©April 3, 2012 / Jerry Pat Bolton Thursdays, ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Well, probably be a fitting and quick, painless way to go ... Godly or not, you'll more than likely definitely see the "white light" always alluded too, if only momentarily..lol. Very good write my friend... j. |

We all gotta go sometime. You want a thunderstorm for your exit I want to sneak out in my sleep. (Or stroke out in the throws of ecstacy) ![]() Lori |

Thanks, Lori. Yeah, maybe your second choice should be your first. I have made it mine. Ah, the subtle power of suggestion. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

I would also like to go quickly, JP, in the blink of an eye as they say. Ms. E |

Yes, Ms. E, hopefully that wish will come true for you. Just seems the Big Guy up there put a little too much misery and pain we must bear. Kinda like throwing a hissy fit in my opinion. Thank you for commenting on my poem . . . ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

A poem about death that made me smile...you wascally witer, you!!! ![]() What's left of my family maintains a steadfastly morbid sense of humor, too. Enjoyed your poem, with gusto, as I pictured you, like that guy in the movie "Powder" running out to greet the storm to embrace the lightning bolt. ![]() But you did remind me of another writer, and I can't say I've read much of him but an occasional column. I just fell in love with his NAME. Les Payne check it out: http://www.thehistorymakers.co m/biography/biography.asp?bioindex=1294&category=Mediamakers&occupation=Journalist%20%26%20Author&name=Les%20Payne and do note his favorite quote: "Achieve immortality before you die." *smile* If I'm rambling, it's because I too, have opted for less pain today. I should take a nap...sigh. Less pain means less brain. ![]() |

Ramble on, Karen, ramble on. Yes, I have heard of Les Payne, and the name is catchy, huh? Never read him, but know of "The Heroin Trail." I like your method of opting out of the upright among us with a die laughing with gusto. That thunderbolt from the blackened heavens, however, will take me out with a flash and a deep gash. Ooh, did I say that? This makes my day, Karen. I was already a happy camper because I managed to write Chapter 20 of my novel, "God! The Novel." It's coming slowly, but surely. Thank you. Thank YOU! ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat2 (04-16-2012 06:10 PM).] |

Sometimes in a thunderstorm, umbrellas are no good and underpasses only give an illusion of safety. It is best to reflect on the pillars of your home and reinforce the walls on the face of a mountain. I hope your spirits lift. -Juju |

Blaze of glory sounds good to me, and I would like to have my wits (such as they are) about me until the end. Ida |

A thunder bolt... it would be quick and dramatic for sure. As long as you don't look back, all's good! We have an attachment to our bodies and might not cotton to rearrangement in that fashion. That is one way to fry your brain, and get rid of finger prints. I can't believe I'm joking about this. It seems logical to want to leave without too much distress. ...an interesting and morbid poem, this, Jerry. |

Good morning, Ida, and thank you for your opinion and comments. <><><><> Klassy Lassy, yeah, it is a bit morbid, but it was mostly (mostly), tongue-in-cheek. Appreciate your presence here. |

Loved the rhythmic flow of this write. We all have to go at some point. Why not choose our way out. Great read. |

Thanks, again, Eloise. Yes, it is a treat to be able to pick and choose hoe and when to go. It happens more often than people realize. Junior Seau, ex-professional football star picked today for his exit. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |
