His fingers will not interlace mine the way that comfort feels We will not rest together in what some call the sunset years. I am a being's furrowed brow. I watch him like a child on skates. He reads the horoscopes to me; I analyze the real estate sections of the newspaper searching for an exit's grace... skipping obits lest I face my life in someone else's words the bags beneath a woman's eyes never could conceal the lies she kept and held unto her grave... Sometimes I laugh. I try to pray. And both of us were born this way Stupid with naivete' I was so dumb I called it "faith"-- and vowed that it would stay the same. He's still a child on roller skates. Our fingers still won't interlace. And time will turn our stubborn page to face the obits' black and gray photograph of just one half the story of who got away. |

The phrase, "quiet desperation" came to mind as I read this generous offering from you in these early morning hours. This self inspection is one of the best I have ever read of yours. No this, you are not alone, there are many who are going through this with you, not that knowing that will make a difference, but it just is. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

ty Jer, for your quiet understanding, especially since I usually uselessly rage against what is... I should sleep. I have to put on man pants sometime tomorrow and service a window unit. (Sounds like more fun than it is...) *smile* |

I read poems every morning at five oclock. And today I found a gem at the top of these blue pages. And while reading, Simon and Garfunkle were softly singing, about a dangling conversation, in a corner of my mind.. "And you read your Emily Dickinson, And I my Robert Frost, And we note our place with bookmarkers That measure what we've lost." And, although the theme is disturbing, at the end I had to applaude. "Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance." |

Simon & Garfunkel is about as sentimental as I get regarding two sad kids who held hands and jumped... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEwQ0iTHD-8&feature=fvst Bookends..sigh. I was trying for Bookends... The shortest most perfect song (second only to Taps) that always makes me cry. And really, I just GOTTA duck that sun. Ew. Thank you for reading, lovie. |

Ah, indeed " bookends" went to the video, tried to sing along, but choked.. I ask emotions: Sadness, sadness why do you well tears? And emotion answers: "Because you are human, be glad in it." And the words of "The dangling conversation" Returned again..by my asking... Go here , dear poet friend, to hear it-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdodDEELLDg |

Sometimes the hardest part of a relationship is coming to terms with one's own complicity. Thanks for reading--I ended up someplace quite unexpected, so I appreciate the prompt from Huan Yi, with his challenge. Ya'll have a nice weekend. |

It's kind of debatable which half gets away. Sad either way, Karen. Great poem. Ida |

skipping obits lest I face my life in someone else's words You too huh? This theme is very very sad but at the same time compelling reader's attention to the reality. The closure one never gets over. Sorta like an oxymoron....?? You're still doing so well Celeste. Eric true love never looks after it's own interests |
