Mama's Noodle Soup |

Mama’s Soup Nothing will ever taste as good as Mama’s homemade noodle soup. It was the cure for everything from chicken pox to the nasty croup. It was worth the while of getting sick to be brought a nice big bowl. To make a soup that tastes like hers has been my life-long goal. Papa would dress a big fat hen which Mama boiled ‘til it fell apart. She’d separated meat from bones but that was just the start. To make her noodles she’d break eggs, enough to fill a cup and one single tablespoon of water would completely fill it up. Flour enough for stiff dough rolled and hung to dry, then cut into the noodle soup, it was simply for to die. Noodle soup was one of many that Mama fed her brood.. No gourmet cook has ever made a soup to taste so good. |

I have had some mighty fine homemade (I make it too) noodle soup, but I have a feeling this would be a little better than fine. It's like my grandmother's tea cakes. She made the absolute best and on an old wooden stove. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Joyce, This is too precious. I've had a few "mamas" in my lifetime that fixed chicken soup, and many other recipes, by "their" way...and I learned their ways enough so that when it comes to variety, we, you and I, could fill a cookbook! And yes...I do recall a day that I was so hungry for some tapioca/vanilla pudding that Mom would fix for those who weren't feeling well, enough so to fake a small quake of "oh mama, I'm not feeling so well" moment. But I did it too early in the morning, and she made me go to school that afternoon! |

Sounds wonderful, Joyce. Few gourmet cooks can compare to Mom. Ida |

Comfort food is what mom made. Chicken soup one of her best... now I have learned to make it for her. Enjoyed your wonderful poem, Ms. E [This message has been edited by ebonygirl (04-06-2012 09:25 AM).] |

quote: Wonderfully nostalgic poem of praise, dear Joyce. But I am sure your children have the same feelings towards you and praise your own abilities as a Mama-chef! I relate of course, but even more than my Mom, it was my Grandma who is remembered for some of her celestial specialities. I have her book of recipes which is written in old German and is over one hundred years old. A treasure! Happy Easter! Love, Margherita |

Yes, I remember the same but from my Grandmother, and all the recipes were "a little of this" and " taste of that"...making it very hard to recreate. Wishing you a happy holiday, M |

The love in this endeavor resounds! I smile and remember my Grandma as I read this. She worked so hard to feed everyone there, and you felt the joy of her spirit in the kitchen. I imagine your mother to be that way, too, as she put her heart into taking care of her family. Your poem is "chicken soup for the soul." Loved it. Karen |

I wish I had a bowl right now. I have been wanting to make my own noodles. Might have to give it a shot soon and try my hand at making my own Noodle soup. Thank you, dear Joyce. Alison |
