Post marked 1929 two cent George Washington stamps in red on the age yellowed envelopes Addressed in flowing perfect pen Letters to my grandmother that she had saved from him . He said that he missed her so and needed her... It was not what my eyes expected to see Such tenderness and yearning from the Grandfather I knew him to be He was suit and tie and stuffy No fun about him he was not one for informality That he could have a lover's heart I could hardly believe I could read no further into their privacy I separated the letters from their envelopes Saving the sentimental and letting the old stamps go into to the estate sale for some collector And as for me I'm wonder struck I finally understand I knew she loved him dearly but I never understood what she saw in the man LGR(C)3/18/12 |

Yes indeed. He may have been what you perceived him to be to the rest of the world, but to your grandmother he was a lover par excellence! Can't always tell that book by its cover, eh? ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

I knew she loved him dearly but I never understood what she saw in the man He may have been a different man by the time you knew him... but in every look, she saw that tender lover. Beautiful write! |

Those letters, as revealing as they are, show beauty Is truly in the eyes of the beholder. Enjoyed Ms. E |

"And as for me I'm wonder struck I finally understand I knew she loved him dearly but I never understood what she saw in the man" Thought provoking, and I found out my parents were human too... It only took me about 20 years. Love the write Lori. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

Lori The twenties were not exactly the age of showing public affection, and sometimes not even in private. What you have done here is expose truths, that is that your grandfather did have soft feelings, but held them away from view of the whole world, except for your grandmother. I know men today that still do that, a carry over from that era. "I could read no further" I think I would have to read on, if those letters were mine. Good stuff, LGR, I enjoyed the poem. |
