In Four Short Hours It dawned on me at twilight there was a reason today for the nudging of corners …not that you’re ever gone far from my thoughts and I use to be much better at remembering special days, but it seems that now I not only need calendars, but apparently tweeks and twits and toots from anything electronic [God help the child who can’t plug in a cord] and in four short hours, you would have shared a magical day with a magical friend…only moments older than you. It would have been your 64th birthday. Young by many standards, this day and age. As much as you took care of you, your childhood accident finally allowed a fifth cancer to dissolve your reserve, though you asked for admittance by sounding such words as “let me go.” As much as I loved you, and still do, I would not take my response back, as I have never wanted pain for any beloved … creature, whether human or animal; and yet it tears me apart, your not being here, for in a fortnight, I would have regaled you with all of the sun and sights of a cruise to be taken in two days time; I would have cheered and reveled with you over cheese, bread, and wine; I would have scrabbled new words not thinking of wasted time… I would have been with my dear friend, as only my mind, and memory can visit now. I do not forget. I feel you on my shoulder, always. On your birthday, with all of the magic it holds, I send my love. © KRJ 1-24-2012 In memory of Louise Ryan a/k/a Bridget Shenachie 1-25-48 - 9-3-2010 67023 |

Every February 24, I celebrate my brother's birthday and think of all the good that he has shared with me. I miss him every year - no less than the year before. It's a constant hole in my life to not have him here on this earth with me. He was my older brother, my friend, my protector, my teacher. There will never be another like him in this life. Loved this, Sunshiney one. Love you & am thinking of you. Alison |

Felt the pain through every single line, Sunshine. The pain isn't as bad as it was once, but pain, however dulled, is still pain, and pain hurts. ~*~ I gave up feeling guilty just to survive a long time ago ~*~ |

Such a horrible disease taking many way too young, then again is it kind when any loved ones goes? Good thoughts of love and reflection or your beloved friend here. |

A loving tribute, K. Those memories,.. That time spent together should never be considered wasted. Without those, what would life be? It's taken me the whole of my life to realize that life isn't living at all, if it's not being shared. Michael |

What a lovely tribute to Bridget, Karilea. It's amazing how dates, sounds, visuals and even scents can spark memories and bring our loved ones flowing back into focus if only for a while. It's wonderful that those we cherish can still come back in this way in our hearts and minds. ![]() Best wishes and hugs, /Kit |

Parker, today of all days....that the computer burped up this message several times, only indicates that my lovely friend Louise is trying to tell me something. I believe in magic, Parker. Thank you for finding this, especially at this time. |

James, this lady meant so very much to me in the best of all ways. Although in a wheelchair since 16, when I met her in her 50's, she never ONCE seemed to me to be in a wheelchair. She overcame herself, and I always saw her as a true and upright, proud person. As we came closer, and shared stories of family, friends, business history and the like, she became even more stand-up in my mind. When she passed, and her family asked if I would give her eulogy, another friend of hers who "re-met" Louise through our connections, came to the funeral. There was a moment in the eulogy that I flagged a bit, lost a little momentum, and then on my right side, I felt a warmth. As I was talking, I couldn't think what it was. The friend who was in the church rushed out afterwards and said, "I saw her! I saw her stand, touch your right shoulder, and walk away!" So, when I talk to Louise now, it is because she IS in my thoughts, she is real, and personal, loving, and resting in peace, but she never forgets to reach out a loving hand and say "Yes, I remember, and I am sending gifts." I know this, because she has sent someone else out to me to encourage me to pick up my writing once again, and 'get real' with it. I am blessed, James. We should all be blessed in such a way. Thank you my friend, for your comments. |

Karilea, your poem and all the replies, especially Alison's and Michael's and Jimmy's and Kit's, had the tears flowing uncontrollably down my cheeks and unable to find words to say to you, but this last reply of yours has me sobbing and with nothing remotely available to me to say . . . Hugs and tears Owl |

Diana, thank you for accepting this poem and its emotion for what it is, to me: truth in all things miracle. Parker, I am sorry for your loss. Sometimes friends can be a stronger, emotional tie than blood relatives might ever be. I am glad you found some solace here. And you are right, my friend Louise probably did point you to a healing place. Great hugs to the both of you. Sunshine |
