A Traveler sat his pack aside- To rest a bit one day. I heard him sigh as I walked by- All men ‘ave feet of clay. It matters not the noble deeds, Nor popular acclaim… His noble heart, has hidden parts- He contemplates with shame. As years pass by, and maidens cry- He wends his lonely way, He fights his wars, and bears his scars- As hair grows thin and gray. He lays at night while dreams afright, And memories take their toll… And contemplates his final fate, When facing judgment’s scroll. I’ve lived my life the way I chose- Alas, to what avail? I can’t discern my friends from foes- So goes the traveler’s tale. |

This reader perceives the deep melancholy you conveyed so well in this poetic offering. I do hope this traveler has also moments of relief from this state of sadness! "To what avail?" you ask. Trust that you have touched many people during your life's journey with your poetic heart and no doubt you have plenty of reasons to reassure yourself! Great write. Margherita |

And me too, I can't discern my friends from foes ((( Such a philosophical poem, and brilliantly written! Thank you for sharing! |

Ah, but what a road it's been. The truest friends are not the one's trying to comfort you're isolation, or bring you to a better place... but those share your isolation with you, even if never face to face. Michael |
