Patchwork of Words

There was a time of pleasure and need.
On words of many, this heart/mind did feed.

Sometimes under 20, sometimes a bit more.
But always brought thoughts, a smile to restore.

I feel now, this Autumn, when temperatures cool
Where they say life's a number, but I'm nobody's fool.

With age comes the wisdom as others would state
But tags along wrinkles to slow down one's gait.

And I read and I ponder and wish for the past
Where words weren't just words, but feelings amassed.

I am losing, I think, of the happiness found
When words weren't just words but where friendships were sound.

Now the missing are missed and those savored are words
That repeated aloud bring memories now heard

As I voice, the unvoiced, and I piece thoughts of mine.
It's a patchwork of friendships of years to combine.

Ahhh . . . M, this is a wonderful, delightful and a fun to read write which explains the complex aging process where inside our thoughts are patchworks of words. Loved it!

Thank you, Jerry. For some of us who have been on this site from almost the beginning or longer , many developed long term friendships (some met in real).  I have been trying to collect and organize well over  3000 poems, rereading many "remembering when".  And of course as I am aging, needs and wants are changing, some for the better and others... well...

I thought I would  spend some time reading old friends today.

Find myself there a lot these days, my friend. Know the "feeling" well, and I too have been "back-reading/remembering/thinking/wishing". Age does that to one, you know, and even with love surrounding one, loneliness still peeks in at times.  The missing of all that came before, that brought one to this day . . .

I somewhat know your heart, and soul . . .
and I touch it today, with my own.

What a beautiful and poetic way of putting this, Maureen! . . . So apt.  I echo Jimmy too.

I lived every stanza, but it was the secondlast stanza that dissolved me into tears.

I hear you, M, and you have stated the aging process wonderfully well. I loved this one . . .

Exquisitely done, dear Maureen. I do relate too of course, but nothing is really lost until we label it thus.

Your being here again, sharing your beautiful words, is a new reason to be happy and an inspiration to create more of those emotions that bond us together, whether still alive or carried in the heartgarden of sweet memories.

Hugs.

*sorry it took so long to respond, (computer problems)

jimmy, time seems to be slipping away ... I was trying to choose how I wanted to decorate my tree this Christmas ( first time in a few years) and I came across the words that I made into mini quilt ornaments from  some pip and other poet friends sent me  years ago.
Thank you always for your warmth of words in replies. I appreciate you, always!

Diana, Thank you for always being here.

paderewski, sighing~~ I am sure many of us are  feeling those years passing us by. Thank you.

Margherita, you are so sweet. I am always  checking in here to read. Life has just gotten in the way a bit
