YOUR BETRAYAL
20 September 2013

A sea of broken paper-words,
blowing in my face,
fragmented, scattered wide;

you gave me
your quiver-heart
and songbird soul
in return for mine
and we loved and shared and laughed
and cried and sang and danced
and wrote poetry to each other;

then you took back
your heart and soul,
unannounced and casually,
and discarded mine
carelessly
with the trash,
and crunched the marrow of my bones
underfoot,
and didn’t take the time to tell me,
for I no longer mattered,
and you had forgotten me,

and you left me with a gaping emptiness,
raw-edged and frozen,
and blood-tears dripping from
where my heart, then yours, used to be.
I was a book you closed
and put back on the shelf.

How could you do this to me?

so painful, sometimes we don't see it coming, but even if we did, once we love, how can we hold back?

I can most certainly relate all too well to this 'write' ...
with the exception of one who died, I have had a rather
unfortunate number of similar past experiences. Incurable
romantics are likely the 'bullseye of an easy target' ...

The agony of loss is always compounded when betrayal is involved. My heart aches for you.

Sometimes I think it takes a certain innocence to fall in love. I have this theory that you can't really fall in love after 40 because you know too much.

Those are wise words, Ida.  However, some of us aren't always wise, giggles.

Thanks, Karilea!  I only saw my typo after 24-hour editing time was up.  Smiles.

Wearing your heart on your sleeve, can sometimes leave your heart exposed to hurt.

My heart feels your pain and I wish that I could give you part of mine to help heal yours.  You write with such anguish - I hurt for you.

Yes, fine writing because you share yourself always.

Love you, Wol.

You are right, Michael, but it is worse when the other does too and then changes.

Thank you, Alison.  You HAVE given me a part of your heart to help me heal and thank you for that too.

I love you, too.
