Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Love locks our hearts
and our feet
When we let it
Passion steals the keys
in its heat
Never noticing they're missing
'till it cools
Wary hearts
of broken locks
and memory keys
stay out of touch
Better to lock out
than be locked in
again

I have to agree with every line.

Thanks Jerry! Sounds like I got this one right. AND I have it in writing. Priceless!

A most appropriate ending.  Here's to getting it right.

key line for me was when we let it. every thought will hit home for many and that is the mark of a poet

I used to think that real poets wrote with unfamiliar words and obscure meanings. That is why it took until I was fifty to come out of the closet and call myself a poet (I'd only been writing for over 40 years)
Like my friend Jerry said so well...
"But I'll go on, it's what I do,
It's what I've found, and it is true."
So calling me a poet is a bigger compliment than you may realize. THANK YOU!

True as that may be, it doesn't stop some people from allowing themselves to be loved...
