the strutting cock of the walk sings to his harem cockatoo, cockatoo the hens stop their backyard gossipy clucking to watch the cock of the walk he was quite full of himself these days all these lovely hens for the taking yes, he was quite full of himself as he counted the hens to make sure he had counted right the first time twenty-nine like before he pranced into the middle of harem cleared his throat with a few cockatoos and preceded to inform the ladies he was going to perform a miracle today because he was the cock of the walk he would pleasure all twenty-nine hens one after the other the hens clucked, some almost swooned from happiness and wonderment and so the cock of the walk began his quest loudly proclaiming, cockatoo, cockatoo and he set to work stopping only to drink water one after the other after the other . . . until in mid-afternoon sun blazing down it was over, it was done he staggered from the satisfied hens getting ready to go into his cockatoo, cockatoo when out of the henhouse came three young hens mere teenagers in hen time they had been inside out of the sun now they were ready for the cock of the walk he looked in complete dismay and although it came out as a whisper he did say, cockatired, cockatired moments before he kneeled over . . . dead (c)September 2, 2013 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you lined paper write sideways. ~*~ |
