Stilled

I've heard silence is deafening—
Learned nothing's blinding too.
I stare at nothing anyway,
What else have I to do?
The heat in this hell sweltering,
The heart within me froze;
I pass the hours each day this way,
The ritual I've chose...

Till darkness closes around me,
As I lie beneath the light;
With the only sound my heartbeat,
As I become one with Night.
I can see how Time has bound me—
Strapped a chain to every thought,
And tied my hope to dreams replete
With passions of the distraught!

Still I know an answer's forming
Just beyond my conscious grasp...
I feel the sinister grating
On whispers, not but a rasp.
And I know the night is storming,
But lie, at peace, on my bed;
For what good is self-berating
Once the emotion's been bled?

When the world just keeps turning,
But Time's left you standing still.
While ambition grows lethargic,
And daylight, itself, saps your will.
Where that hope's no longer burning—
Neither anger in its stead.
When the candle's down to the wick,
And you're just this side of dead.

You write of the darkness in broad daylight...which is intriguing to me.  I liked what you said about the emotion being bled.   Never sure what to say but you are a fine poet, Sir.

This is exquisite. You write about darkness, and make it beautiful. Enjoyed.
