I thought you were gone
with the sunlights' diminish,
holding its rays back from
the fields now in hospice

but you're storming all
reason

with the final few dandelions
and allsorts of wildflowers,
losing their potency, but not yet
receptive of autumn's new reign and
its winds that will scatter them into
the haunting oblivion and whether
they'll thrive in an afterlife

yet you cling, becoming those
last blooms of summer, those
stray threads that wander, into
faraway continents, in places
where vowels round off into
sounds of lost languages

I thought you were gone

but you sang at my window,
September a swan song and you
my sweet harmony, reminding we
are never too far from both death
and eternity

This is very good, Emma. The birds gave to you a haunting remembrance of the spring rains and the summer's delight with everything growing, giving the birds substance. I really liked this.

I so love your poetry....your words have a lilt and a sway and a very special flair.  Your last verse really left me feeling how life is so fleeting...and so precious.  Lovely work, Emma.

I love how you paint a picture - a beautiful picture with your words, and how you use nature as a medium to get your thoughts across...if that makes sense. Enjoyed.

What a sweet way to picture a late summer into wonderful words. Enjoyed each and every word.

... and you have outdone yourself with this spectacular rendering of the magic of late summer birdcalls.
