childhood memories can come at any time like my thoughts tow-headed kid and hot summer rain in small town Arkansas playing WAR with my plastic and rubber army guys in the middle of battle the raindrops began soon my soldiers and I were in the middle of a hot summer rain bare-chested, wearing cutoff jeans I left the army where they were they were soldiers after all tough, not bothered by the rain my war game was being played out in a bare spot of ground where a top layer of sandy soil I imagined the battle was taking place in Africa with Rommel's eighth army I stood and looked upward baring my half-naked body to the rain do your best rain I was as tough as my soldiers standing there facing the rain I began to sense a new smell I looked down and saw the raindrops falling onto the sandy soil pock-marking it with huge drops the aroma of the rain falling on the sand I could hear my soldiers say what'd ya stop for, we have a war to win I dropped down in the sand which was by then turning into mud and led my troops to a final, decisive victory at the end of the battle both my army and myself were covered with mud I didn't care my soldiers didn't care we had won I gathered the army up and started home when I got close to home I saw her standing outside in the rain belt in hand I knew I was in for it I didn't care me and my army had won ©July 29, 2013 / Jerry Pat Bolton |

Not you Jerry- Her! You were the innocent. You didn't spoil it all. It was a perfect poem of how it was. I'm just glad you do have good memories. Just because I'm an emotional bucket of mush DOES NOT mean you have anythig to APOLOGIZE for. ![]() |

The poem was wonderful, I could feel the rain, smell wet earth and the sensation of mud upon my own skin. What a memory...beside the part wear a belt comes in... CONGRATS on your VICTORY!! HOORAY! ![]() ![]() |
