Town Crier "Oyez, Oyez!" You hear him cry, As you walk through the city square Nonchalantly, if on the fly— Refuse to acknowledge hime there. Your life, it pushes, pulls and screams! There's no stopping the ebb and flow. You've no time for some crier's dreams, Though may pity him as you go. With tricorne hat— with a hand bell, And tattered robe, once white, now grey... "The end is near!" But the eyes tell There's no such thing as yesterday. You catch a cold chill down your spine, Yet still push your way through a crowd Gathered to hear this old man whine, In words most would not speak aloud. "Give up thy foolish quests, dear one. Time has come to lay trophies down." You quit walking, and start to run, Face drawing a discordant frown. Yet as you move further away, That voice resounds so strong and clear! You turn back, seeing there's no way It could still carry to you here. "No escape for the unprepared!" And now you'd stop, direly confused. "No! Not even one will be spared!" Somehow leaves you feeling accused... For but living is all you've done, If ever determined to win. Who's he to say the gambit's run? Or to remind you of your sin? You turn around, ambitions thrust Forward in a defensive surge; "...Too late!" reverberates to dust, The last echo of this man's dirge. You make your way back to the square, Wondering where everyone went; A wishing that life just played fair Adding to your bewilderment... The streets empty but for a haze Rolling in like an honored guest, Driven on by some maddened craze; To which but silence could attest... You find the hat where the man stood. You put it on, and start to see The pangs of life misunderstood. "Oyez, Oyez!" You start your plea. Michael Anderson 7/21/2013 |

Haha! Fantastic! The old saying applies here, "If you can't beat 'um, join 'um." I had a couple of endings floating through my admittedly sparse brain, but neither of them compared with the one you gave us. Hilarious, in a sad way when you consider everything. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |
