A Voice in the Light

Down the heavens, thru the clouds,
across the winds that churn the night,
the velvet darkness pins the sky
with stars of a silvern light.

At a gallop in the dark, the light rays come,
first the fast then behind come the slow.
They both reach the eyes at slight different times
and a Twinkle is their impacts aglow.

In that blink, some men see their last Hope.
In that flash, some men hear their Faith
and a dim corner shows my old Courage lost
now lit by this messenger of Space.

And it seems that the Infinite is speaking
to me, Man the infinitely small,
that we are both the ends of a cosmic circle
not touching but embracing us all

and the unmeasured distance between us
is the breath of a heartbeat’s sigh
winged with a Voice from the velvet darkness
locked in the twinkling of an eye.

And in the silent and echoless vast uncertain
dim of some darkened night
when one star blinks and jumps great distance
straddled to a cosmic light
hurtling the blackness of a million midnights
whose span is a chasmed sea,
if you listen for the light, in the twinkling of an eye,
it will speak to the dark in thee.

Namyh

. . . and through the silent avenues of space and time / you are singled out because you do really believe / the message understood only for your ears / and within your heart eternity is stored . . .

Dear Namyh, this is exquisite, wonderfully crafted and it moves me ... I also would have highlighted the verse quoted by Blueserenade, but the whole poem is worth quoting actually.

Ahhh, you really listened well ....

JerryP – In our Stone Age history we looked up at the stars and couldn’t explain them while in our present age we look up and almost can. I believe it’s the darkness, that emptiness of the night, which compels each human mind to seek or impute explanations for its void and vastness and make us think we’re all alone in the Universe when maybe we’re only just far, far, far away. Let the light shine through those silent cosmic avenues so when it gets here we can store it in the heart....forever. Here’s twinklin’ at ya JerryP. Namyh

Ahhh Shucks Blues Serenade! Now you got me all blushing and stuff and I thank you for it. I think there were more rewrites with this particular piece than some others. I wanted to get the ideas, phrasing and rhyming just right and it’s evidenced by your wonderful words I wasn’t far off. You’ve removed the ‘blue’ from my day and added a ‘Serenade’ of pleasure in its place BS. Thanks. Namyh.

Lori – Consider this a late night prayer for the next time you look up at the evening sky and those stars seem to beckon. Prepare yourself. There’s an incoming message on the way. Thanks Lori for enjoying. Namyh

"And it seems that the Infinite is speaking

Just one of the great lines in this.  You've blossomed into quite the story teller on these pages, Namyh.  I always look forward to reading you.

Michael – If there has been a blossoming, it’s only because I’ve bathed in the poetry of kindred writers whose ideas shine on the imagination and prove that growth is ordained for all life, especially for us  poets. I’m so very happy you enjoyed those lines. Talk about rewrites! You should have seen the many variations before ending up with this favorite one. They were evidently all worth it. Hope this put a ‘blossom’ in your day as you’ve put one in mine. Now you got my growing petals feeling kinda ‘rosey’. LOL. Thanks Mike. Namyh

Definitely an inspirational poem which also defines mystery without which there can never be any transcendent feeling.

...a well written fusion of both!

jklint – It seems that human curiosity has always required a mystery to achieve that ‘transcendent feeling’ that perhaps there is an answer of hope to our questions either up there or out there. Best we listen for that light, just in case there’s a reply in it from one of them. Now that’ll put some ‘fusion’ in the day. Makes this old poet smile with pride that you found some here and were definitely inspired by it. Thanks jklint. Namyh
