LAST RITES 11 June 2013 I touched death today for a moment as a leaf fluttered to its last resting place on the forest floor and its sadness gripped my throat and stayed my footsteps as I mourned its passing knowing it would never again dance green to the tune of a mischievous breeze. Owl |

Owl, I like the imagery of your poem! And to be honest my first impression was that you tell me not about the leaf, but about some friend. |

Thank you, Gale. Whilst I really do have a most beloved indigenous forest for my garden, and whilst the leaf was very real, yes, you are most perspicacious and it was about a man in another poetry forum - not a death, though, but an ending, yes. Owl |

perhaps the dancing of the green will be but a sweet memory, but the ones to follow will nevertheless be wearing a shade of last season's collection as all spins on the spiral |

Superbly put, EmmaRose, yet as well as this poem being for my sake, it is also for the sake of the leaf and my compassion for it, both the literal one and he who was its symbol. Owl |
