She hated me

because I knew

I'm good at puzzles

not a sleuth

but now she's dead

and I hold truth

swallowing

like it is puke

halfway up my throat

so I

do not sing

I do not cry

I-do-not-understand

I died

the day I drank her poison-lies...

I watch her being sanctified,

but place those portraits

face-first-down

the way they useta

tell the truth

in wise women ways.

Very expressive and thought-provoking!
Thank you for sharing!

And I want to ask you about the word "useta".
Is it a short form of "use to" like "gonna" and so on?
I just never met it before.

You go, girl!  This must have been superbly cathartic to write, Karen.  I love the controlled power you responded with "in wise women ways," in comparison to her unbridled attack.

This is written so well it puts me in mind of a tailor made suit-each word a perfect stitch.

Well now. I'm glad I got THAT outta me--sorry for messin' up the place. AGAIN.

Puke. One syllable word that packs a punch. I guess you guys have figured out that I do not kid myself about what I write. There's no cleansing ritual of bath and oil annointment, I do not don white robes to walk down some hallowed hall past statues of the great poets  so I can sit at a glowing white keyboard. *chuckle* It's okay if any of ya'll do, I just don't.

And as for useta? I had a couple of beers and had just finished a country music parody, so I was stuck in that thought-mode.

Words? Sometimes I just make 'em up.

Thanks once again for indulging me with your time. The first part was just because I'd heard of the custom of burying people face down if they were thought to be going to Hell. The devil's in the details, and I've was ruined by a class in anthropology long ago.

*shrug*

Love to you all.

Sometimes wisdom comes at severe prices.  Knowing that women are far wiser than men, I cringe to think of the priced you must've paid to write this piece.  It's amazingly unfair women don't have a soft spot worth kicking like men do.     Love your style, and the severity of this.

Oh Michael...men ARE women's soft spot...

*squeeze*

and j. my friend, you always make me feel silly after I explain myself--with you there is no need. I find that quality priceless in a friend.

Thanks for reading. :squeese:

Dear Karen, thank you for writing this incredibly powerful piece. I relate more than I would like to ... it is as if I was "one" with you while reading this.

Pure expressive excellence.

Love and hugs.
