the sun is brighter
than it was yesterday
or perhaps
the little one has slipped
further from its protective covering
dare the little one
stand?
yes, and take two wobbly steps
but stopped
heart beating wildly
fearing to fall
the sun caressed the little one
giving it courage
to keep going
yes, yes, it is a risk
going forward into what the little one
knows not
all it has to do is return
to the protective covering
of the flower of mother
staying there refusing to flourish
and bloom
the warmth of the sun
soothes the fears
somehow the little one knows
to remain in the protective covering
of the flower mother
is more painful
than taking the gamble; the risk
taking that next step
another
with each step the little one
feels growth
and exciting things as he blooms toward
his future

The whole poem is very delicate and profound, dear Jerry, and the ending is truly gorgeous.

I enjoyed your special contribution to Mother's Day.

Margherita said it best. This poem was touching to me because of the way you described the growth.  Often personal growth or change follows those same steps.
Wonderful write Jerry

All I can say is that in the present economy the little ones, in this nest anyways, seemingly aren't taking bloom anytime soon... but, regardless, your poem, as written, was very inspiring and gentle in nature.

Thank you, Bob, I really not a brute as I like to portray myself. Thank you.
