Senses of Your Loss

I saw a shimmer from the right,
A passing spark or trick of light;
It caught my eye, this happenstance,
And begged a second, fleeting glance.

I wondered, as I always do,
Could there be more? Could this be you?
I peered from left to right in hope
For just a glimpse to try and cope.

Elusively, the glimmer shone,
One moment there, another gone;
It left my wits a bit askew
As thoughts of you came rushing through.

Familiar senses brushed my mind
To gently guide in brief rewind;
As welcome sounds like symphonies
Arose within my memories.

The gentle nuance of your voice
Came back to make my heart rejoice;
Those subtle tones I loved to hear
For just a moment, lingered near.

As recollections gathered ground,
I savored every morsel found;
Consumed by thoughts of you I missed,
To fill me as I reminisced.

The subtle scents I knew of you
Came wafting up, and down, and through,
A fragrant momentary thrill
To bend my mind and thwart my will.

Perception blurred that slender line
Where truth and hope can misalign;
Yet in the wake of seconds passed,
I felt your gentle touch at last.

Intangible, though it may seem,
Your hug was sensed as if a dream . . .
For only you could comfort me
From heaven’s trail, in absentee.

Oh, this is a keeper, Kit, and I will do so and revisit it from time to time. Such a beautiful theme and the rhyme was stupendous. Excellent! The special poem will be in my thoughts for days I have a feeling. Thank you for being poet enough to move me.

You too hugged my heart with your poetic words as I thought of friends and loved ones gone before. Hoping you many more hugs and fond encounters to come. Thanks so much for sharing this.

The rhymes flow so effortlessly and convey a deep harmony to your very poignant poem, dear Kit.

Love moves graciously through and in between your words and it is profoundly tangible.

Excellent.

Your poetry is so meaningful and moving.  You seem to find the goodness in all things, and yet your words leave me with both,  a heavy heart and a sense of gladnesss.

Really nice to be reading you these days, Kit~

My throat is tight and tears are ignoring my pleas not to fall. This flows beautifullly and rhymes divinely but mostly... it touches the heart of anyone who's ever lost and missed.

Suthern:  Thank you for the lovely comment Ruth. I’m so glad to hear you were touched by this, thank you so much.

Mysteria:  Thank you Sharon.  There’s still a lot of days where I like to feel I can sense her. I tried to do this poem based on an exploration of the 5 senses (but hey, maybe it will lead me to a 6th sense!)

With much appreciation to you both,
/Kit
