Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2013-05-09 02:48 AM

The river ice remains
Thick in mid May
And some worry
About ice jams and floods
Perhaps I could write
About the black bottom
Ice that floats to the top
Like cream in a glass jar
Of fresh cow’s milk

I think of my Mother
After gazing at pictures
Of her smile
My façade seems crooked
As if it exposes the sadness
That I tend to dismiss
Every day, I think
I miss her a bit more
I know that poetry lives
Still in my Mom

Today I heard a voice
I had heard before
I ever heard it
That sweet voice of friendship
Those soothing tones of love
Beckoned me closer
And somehow showed me
The poems that I dream
Have been written
And remain within me

Each word is a piece of me

And your precious words, dear Alison, reach out and gather around me and touch me, allowing me to share your emotions.

I can say only yes to what you express so beautifully here. On one side there is the pain for the physical loss, but on the other side you perceive your Mother's spirit and soul as it permeates your being and all the things and the poems and the dreams ...

It was a privilege to read you this morning.
Sending you all my love and big hugs.

Lovely, Alison, and so good to see you here again.  The words may change as we grow but, yes, will certainly always be a part of the writer as will the memories of your mother always be part of you.  Each time we think of those who have passed over we honour them.

Dearest Margherita friend,

Thank you.  My Mom ... well, I don't really know how to express how much I love my Mom.  She was so proud of every poem that I showed her - she ... I can't really say it, I can only feel it.  She is forever my Mom.

Alison

Helen,

Thank you.  I think of her a lot and I want others to get a feel for what an amazing woman she was (and continues to be).  You have touched me.

That is exactly what happened.  I just wrote.  It's kind of hard to start up again, but it helps to have friends like you cheering me on.

Bluesy one,

Thank you.  Sometimes I feel like I am one walking exposed heart right now. It's good to "see" you again.

The way you describe your love of writing your poetry is felt deeply by many of us who can relate to this. I am happy that you had such a sweet relationship to your mom, who admired your beautiful words

It is very emotional, both the grieving and the beautiful words your mother left and passed on to you. She will always remain alive within your loving heart, and that is exactly where she would long to be. A beautifully rendered examination of death and the rejuvenation of your fantastic mother. I loved this poem.

I read this exquisite, quiver-sensitive, part of the portrait of Alison's heart yesterday, but didn’t have the words to express my reaction to this masterpiece, yet dewdrop gem – I still don’t (will tell you about Rambo, the dog I said I would tell you about when I am up to it), but didn’t want to wait any longer to say what a great work of art this is – poetry at its finest – yet, even more how sincere and real and how Alison (and that is a mega-compliment for any poem) it is.

Jimmy and Diana,

Thank you, my friends, for caring about me so deeply that you care about my Mom too.  It's a very special thing - this friendship that I share with you both.  I have laughed with you and cried with you also ... thank you for doing the same with me.

All my friendship and love,
Alison

Each word is a piece of me

You start off with such a stunning image... and end with beautiful intimacy... and weave your word tapestry with such love.

In your responses, you said you wanted us to know what an amazing woman your Mom was. We do, sweet lady... because your wonderful heart and talented pen have made us love both mother and daughter.

Alison, those are precious memories to have... those you cannot just see in mind, but still hear as well.  They ARE part of you, as you have puzzled through, and that thought alone might just start the thawing process on that May ice you're experiencing.  I'm sorry I couldn't reply to this sooner, but my puter time is really limited these days.  Even so, I did read this and your "Mother's Day Card" poem and was touched by both.  ((Hugs)) to you.

Ruth,

Thank you. It was really just a piece about a period of time and my feelings.

You were the last stanza.  I wrote this after we talked and I was thinking about what a true pleasure it was to hear your voice.

Love you, lady ~
