Fair to middlin' of nowhere

You’re still waiting for me to leave
but I’m still here…
I broke your heart
even though
I never stopped loving you…
You just know I’m going to leave
because I’m not happy
you’re unhappy with me
But I’m still here…
Waiting on you
to love me like you did
before you thought
you would ever be
waiting for me to leave
But I’m still here…
and it’s been years
you’ve been expecting the worst
But I’m still here…
As you search for reasons
to convince yourself
I don’t really love you
so you don’t have to
kiss me
or wear your wedding ring
But I’m still here
listening to “I love you”
dry up in your mouth
But I’m still here
Kissing your cheek in the morning
to wake you up
so I can hear your
soft, warm mmm’s of content
before your eyes open
when you’re not afraid to love
But I’m still here…
As you do your best
to make it not look like
you want me to leave
But I’m still here..
And just maybe
while you were waiting for me to leave…
You went ahead and left
But I’m still here…

What a gun-wrenching write this is, Lori. Heartbreaking and down to the nitty-gritty of what love is supposed to be . . . and not be. Again, what a write!

Sorry about the gut wrench Jerry-
Maybe I should put a TAKE TUMS warning at the top.

Thanks for the read

Sometimes, one gets lost in the "I Told You So" department of life. But like a good partner, you wait for him to find the exit door out of his Righteousness Rigor and maybe someday [soon] he will understand that it was his part of the commitment that up and left...

Very well done!

Very touching write, Lori.  So sad though.  This world is becoming an enigma to me because it seems that nothing at all is as it should be.

Lori will never, ever break my heart,
even if she wanted to, she can't.
Lori can not ever break my heart,
even if she rejects me,
tries to dissapoint me,
pretends I am not there, or anything.
Because if I really want my heart to be broken,
if I insist on always getting disappointed,
I will have to do that, myself.

Perseverance...  I appreciate your poetic display of it here.  Enjoyed!
