Five Minutes
(from Faces of Love)

Meaning was lost
behind veiled eyes,
pinched lips . . .

body language said everything,
everything was understood.

You were mad at me!
I didn't care!.

I didn't feel
enough
about your reasons
to change.

You were in that corner to stay!

Five minutes - no less -

five whole minutes
confining that explosive
two-year old energy

to one spot!

to looking at one corner!

to staring at the junction of two walls!

Five whole minutes!

Of tears and whimpers.
Of holding my wrenching heart
between hands that longed to lift and hug -

five minutes . . .

Five Whole Minutes,

   the longest . . .

of my life.

Five minutes to a lifetime. She'll always love her grandpa.
