Listening to every heart

Back in the Day

A land line
back in the day
meant – sometimes
          gossip
but more often meant
              emergencies

I discovered that
once again
today
after sending a text
with no answer –
then calling –
and voila, a pick up, there she was!!!

Plans made for a good day
       and no true remonstrance’s
                  just a quiet –
                            parents, you can imagine ---

And Yes, now she can.

                What if they couldn’t
                call, communicate –

                      sending love by nothing but
                      a word
                                    by letter.

I have quietly hidden love letters which I go to quite frequently, Karilea. I love the written word, the hand-written word. Loved this piece by you . . .

Thank you, Jerry. Your voice was so quiet in your reply, I feel this must have touched you well.

When I was little my mother always received from England a blue letter the color of the blue pages. That was the only communication she had with her parents.I always remember those blue letters with a stamp of the Queen on them.

Yes, Victoria...old letters keep history...and texts...are erased or lost so easily. Many of us should, while we are able, revive the art of communication [and cursive] just to prove how right the art of writing truly is!

A lovely poem, Sunshine!
All of my poems are handwritten.
I feel the emotion in my poems more when I write
them by hand.

What a lovely conversation you have sparked. I love receiving letters. I rarely write them anymore as when I do, I am very verbose. Therefore, I never get through the list of all to which I want to write. Then I feel guilty. Guess I'd rather feel guilty evenly so I'm not sleighting someone and not others. No it really doesn't make sense, but I'm at a loss as to any other way to explain it.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Ebony, that I haven't shared in a while, but you are here reading, makes me wonder "what in the heck has been your problem, girl?" so thank you very much, my dear, for finding your way here.

Virginia....

Bless your heart. We do need to get back to some of the basics. Stare at a blank sheet of paper. Imagine for imaginations thought what our friends, and family, might like to hold in their hand, and put away to read again, or to share with family.

Let's do it!

I love your thoughts expressed here so well, dear Karilea.

How true it is, that often our modern ways of communication leave no tracks at all, as we easily press "cancel" and it's gone forever ... Often I think "this I will remember forever!", but then after a while our memory begins to fade ... old letters have their fascination no doubt.
