The Summer That Was Definately Not a Bummer I met her in summer by the twin docks after we arrived late for our holiday. The twin docks were on the end of the bay or perhaps it was the beginning. As a young boy I could swim underwater from one dock to the one on the otherside with out coming up one time for air. I remember that because the first time I managed to do it I was swimmming with my eyes closed until I hit my head on the beams of the other dock and came to a sudden stop. My brother laughed at me at that time, the brother that recently passed away from cancer of the throat because he smoked like a madman most of his life. Of course his laughs were only brotherly love, me and my brothers always had lots of fun running wild in the woods and on the beaches as young boys in Florida. On one occasion I was going across the long part of the bay on an innertube when my brother started yelling, "shark, shark," and I could swear I saw a shark fin coming my way as I turned that innertube around and made it back to shore as fast as I could paddle, all the time thinking a shark was going to bite me on the butt at any moment. But getting back to "her"; one fine summer day I was swimming underwater across the short part of the bay when I spied what appeared to be a mermaid swimming across my starboard bow as nice as could be. On top she was wearing a tiny bikini that barely covered the essentials, and as I started following her I noticed she wasn't a mermaid at all, but a young lady, maybe a few years older then me that filled out a bikini really well. Like me she appeared to be a good underwater swimmer, such luck... We both went up for air at the same moment so close we could have kissed; well, I was only 12 and one you could call an inexperienced kisser. Come to find out she was stayng in the beachhouse next to ours and that summer definately was not a bummer. JamesLee 20February 2013 ForMyBrotherTerry |
