The Quickening (from Faces of Love) Day brought us . . . beginning. We sat close trying to be invisible, hoping no one would notice the quickening you told me you feel, inside . . . just beneath your navel, you said, what are we to do? The quickening has become roundness, tales of the water melon seed my mother use to tell are now so understood - I never realized, till now. Options. What are we to do? Will you marry me? I don't care what they think. I love you . . . I love you. . . and already, the quickening just beneath your navel, a child - of us. The love - of us. The pair - of us, now three. © wesley james beard, jr. february 14, 2013 |

I saw your response in the last poem saying that some people outside the blue pages didnt understand this poem but I understood it Jimmy. As I said before people in my family look dumbfounded by my poetry.Do I really write that deep? ha... I enjoyed and I bet everyone stayed away from the watermelons in your family.ha ~Victoria |
