The pieces are placed; the puzzle’s complete
yet many more lie scattered about
migrated, I bet, from fantasy’s box
into this one marked reality.

I don’t blame them at all; lonely outside
where no box exists to keep them confined
and I trace their outlines remembering
and wondering if I could move this and that.

But that won’t do; they’d fade into the blue
from whence they surely came from
and if intact I throw them away
they might rise again and disturb my lay-out.

If a cut them and scrunch them into a ball
the pain would endure for innumerable years
but if I ignore them of course it would be
as if they all were not ever real.

But not ever real; ‘twas a game of pretend
that stealthily crept into reality
but what to do with all the misfits
that every day plead for their lives?

So I sort and shuffle, ponder their plight,
and search for a second-hand dealer
but it’s known of course, it’s always known,
fantasy has no price.

I’ll give them to you; that’s what I’ll do
but you don’t want my fantasies
that speak of a love from out the blue
that has no place in reality.

But take them, please take them,
and maybe, just maybe perhaps,
you’ll build a box, a priceless box,
to keep them safe till we meet again.

But don’t give them back unless with your own
they form a complete and whole entity
able to fit and remain confined
slap bang in the middle of reality!

Oh, our fantasies, our fantasies, how they worry us, and the after a while become things which give us great pain. For we know fantasies are metaphysical gypsies who delight in teasing us, and are not desirous of being kept in a sealed box.

Good writing, Helen . . .

Fantasies tease us and amuse us at the same time...but reality always has the last word like fate...Enjoyed Helen

Never would I give them back --- make them my own, maybe, or better yet --- live them with you...

Thanks everyone.  I would hesitate to suggest that everyone live their fantasies because people being as they are these days it would probably lead to chaos.  Mine are good though!
