Disheveled (from Faces of Love) Just made up the bed . . . yeah, no hiding where my thoughts were: like where the two pillows overlapped, or where the slightly over-sized depression in the foam pillow of the mattress still shows, or how the top sheet seemed to gather towards the center - never mind the covers all kicked down to the foot . . . or the night-clothes disheveled, sort of here and there, as if thrown in haste. The sheet I straightened first, pulling it corner to corner, smoothing it with my hand, seeming to feel a lingering warmth, not really there, but felt just the same, the scent of you rising in the air I stirred. The pillows I replaced just as they were, a message, for tonight, the bed clothes I put out of sight, something I hoped you'd understand. And the top-sheet under which you lovingly called my name, I was tempted to leave just as it were, gathered in the shape of us, but I laid it, along with the covers over-top of all, encompassing you and me in last nights embrace, a harbinger of things to come. I made the bed, a moment ago. . . but I lived the passion that mussed it so. © wesley james beard, jr. february 9, 2013 |

Excellent thoughts as you smoothed out the wrinkles and overlapping sheets into a semblance of purity. Enjoyed this . . . ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

What a amazing poem you have written around the mundane chore of making up a bed. Wish I could have similar thoughts when making mine but life is what life is. Enjoyed! Helen |
