Walking along the line
All alone we tread
Each of us alone

No choices no hopes
We tender our voices
We are solemnly ignored

A conspiracy of silence
across every life?
Or universal denial

We are brought forth
naked and crying
and the same we return

Life is cold
eternity unending
We walk the line alone

To take a lot of pain,
take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud,
holds a lot of rain

.

And why is happiness
in life dependent
on notice let alone
approval?

I have seen as with a long look
the best a man can make
is to create his own goodness

out of a clear image of himself
the satisfaction in simply being alive
the pleasure of his own eyes

I love your poem, Paul.

I also love John's reply and agree with him from the ground up to the sky.  I wasn't sure whether it was the last 6 or the last 3 lines that were Ecclesiastes 3:1 so looked it up and I think that it was in fact, a particularly beautiful paraphrasing of 3:12.  Not a criticism, just a confirmation of how magnificent, I think John's reply is.
