People keep asking, "What's this world coming to?" My answer is that it isn't coming, it's already here. / The school shooting has finally caused me to put something out concerning how things are going in the world.

these days
are timorous and overflowing
with distractions
hiding the measureless melancholy
which great hurt can bring about

soon, however, we're able to calm down
long enough to see . . .

utter confusion
zero capabilities
zilch reality
naysayers and haters

Yes, Jerry, the world is on a downward slide that's for sure.  If there is a devil then I reckon he's pulling out all the stops.  It's a pity that mankind is mostly unaware but then again who can really compete with the deceptiveness prevalent in this world of ours today.  We're just pawns anyway on someone's chess board so all we can do is look to ourselves and hold and act out better thoughts.  We sigh, we cry, be we are still alive so all things considered that is indeed a blessing - I think and then sometimes don't think.

"I think and then sometimes don't think."

I hear every word of that, Helen. Where did our downward slide begin I wonder. Was it the flapper era. The mad sixties. Or are we, as you suggested, just pawns on someone's chessboard. I do know that the values I grew up with in the 1950's are nowhere to be found these days, and although I am guilty of tossing some of them aside myself, I never, ever expected to see days like we are living through. Thank you, Helen, for being here.

Yes the whole world had changed especially concerning peace. Lots of violence out there Jerry. I guess you will be avoiding the crowds today in New Orleans?

I not only avoid the crowds in New Orleans, Victoria, I avoid them in what used to be the sleepy little town of Thibodaux where I live. I've been there, done that, with all the insanity. No mas, no mas . . . Thanks for stopping by, my friend.

Yes there are great acts of violence.
But also, great acts of kindness.
Loved the poem!

I know there is, Duck, but it seems the violence is overpowering the kindness. Thanks for stopping by, I really do appreciate it.

You are right, Jerry. I am sure there were people with mental issues and plenty of guns (my Dad had guns and a house full of kids, by the way)when I was was young, but no one went out and shot children that I recall.

In those days, Ida, at least in my days, I rode a stick horse and had a real looking pistol just like the Lone Ranger and I only shot bad guys not children. Thank you for you read and comments.
