Coffee Language

What many different things does coffee mean?

Starbucks iced coffee on a searing summer day
Means relief from stifling and oppressive heat.
Coffee means a grateful respite
From the anguish, floods and raging storms
Of nightly toil and daily strife.
Coffee means a quiet sanctuary,
A place
Where you can REST, and STOP and WAIT.
Coffee means freedom
From the push-me-pull-you tedium of a modern office job,
From the tyranny of petty clocks and papers,
And calendars and schedules,
And people yelling and bickering and pushing and demanding and complaining …
And who the hell wants
To work or even live like that? …
Coffee means break fluid for the soul.
Coffee can soften tempers even as it melts the heart.
And coffee makes delightful mischief
out of pompous titles and pretend positions,
Rendering them irrelevant and comical and moot.
Coffee means no distinction between customers and clients
,between  supervisors and subordinates, between patients and providers.  Indeed
Coffee means that clinicians of all specialties are people too.
They can feel lonely and neglected.
They have families, kids and marriages,
Some of which aren’t very hot right now,
And they might rather not go home when they get off
Because “home” might be worse than work, a living hell.
And they might appreciate a note
From a patient, a customer or client saying:
You are loved and missed and cared for,
And you are needed; please hang in there, …
Because they may never get a note like that at work today
Or a coffee with some one else who cares.
And what else could be sweeter in this world
Than an aromatic mug of steaming black?
And coffee means good night, sweet dreams,
And sleep, and I’ll take care of it,
That you may sleep untroubled and at peace.
And coffee means the promise of tomorrow morning,
That there is yet something to live for and to hope for.
And coffee speaks to me of comfort,
Of love, of friendship and of care.
Thank you, thank you, thank you thank you,
For all your love, all your friendship and all your care,
Because you can’t buy that stuff anywhere!

Of course, too much of anything ain’t good for you.
But a life without coffee is no life for me.
So, another mug of strong, please;
And why not drink to another year of life?
O, for all the miraculous powers of coffee!!!

I am not the greatest.
You are.

Jaime
