Adrenalin Rush (from Riding The Greyhound) It was weather that shook us. Hard driven rain and wind, almost cyclonic, that made us rock with every gust, raindrops sounding like hail bouncing off tin-roofed shacks. "May have to stop," said Big Grey Dog's driver, "almost can't see," just as a Semi, the length of a ship tore by, shaking us nose to tail, driving our right side wheels into rode-side gravel. Grey Dog slid to a screeching, sliding stop, leaning heavily, it's four right-side rear wheels, clutched by the mud and gravel of the shallow, road-side ditch. Lighting cracked, thunder boomed, someone screamed "Oh my God!" Then - Silence. For long moments, silence. Grey Dog's interior lights came on, flickered, steadied. Everyone was looking at me, standing in the center of the aisle. It was me, that screamed, and the fear, the adrenalin rush that clutched my heart was only, just now, beginning to subside. I'd seen some strange and crazy things, had my emotions touched in ways I still feel, have felt high and low, but Oh, Grey Dog . . . What a ride! © wesley james beard, jr. december 30, 2012 |

i am not disappointed to find that this piece has been crafted with stark imagery that is characteristic of your work. this quality commands the imagination and captivates the reader, and that is what i enjoy most when reading your posts. man, the only rush I got from riding was when Border Patrol set the dog go on the bags and arrested 3 people, one of which had what looked like 10 lbs of weed. I just don't understand it. I don't believe i will ever ride the grey dog again in my lifetime. |

Thoroughly enjoyed this ride, Jimmy. We have our share of cloud bursts here so I know about driving almost blind. I don't scream though, just grit my teeth. Helen |

Captivating Jimmy, you sure do have a way with words...yes, play 'em like a fiddle, surrounding your subject and bringing it to life in oils! Enjoyed! TD |
