They weren't soldiers though they stood along the front line not angels though the light shone through their frozen extremities not presidents nor dignitaries, though the stance they too was one to be looked upon with reverence and awe not men of the cloth, though surely they had been touched by the devine not ballerinas nor troubadours mannequins nor mimes though regal in pose in mud claden boots with roots in the ground they took a hit today some merely crippled, some will never sway again to a summer breeze the greats of the forest from the seeds beyond time. |
