She found the letter in the book glued to a page where she had looked every day for years. Rheumatic fingers trembling she peeled the parchment's memory and she exhaled her urgency she shook the book as ashes fell into her lap eternity-- her love, her life, the cost. |

Karen, this is beyond exquisite, written with your inimitable excellence, and in my humble opinion, one of your very best, possibly, your very best! It is an example of minimalist description, yet paradoxically pounding with detail, and years of imagery and emotions culminating in a dénoument par excellence (how unFrench it is of me to use the same descriptive word a second time, so soon after the first – but excellence is a word that I find impossible to avoid in describing your poetry). This poem is what poetry should be – and if ever there was a perfect poem, this is it. Owl |

I've been writing for days to present this--to you all--so if it pleased you I can go to bed pleased. I hope that it did--I just smoked my second-to-last cigarette---which gives me one to have with coffee when I wake. For shame--I love my nicotine and memories, so thank you for popping in to read this one. And Diana? You are so very generous. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't blush and feel good while reading your reply. You make me feel good about writing. You all do. xxox My love to you all. I should go to bed, huh? Nod. Tuck me in. G'nite. |

Something overlooked all these years fell into her lap with grace and forbearance rekindling something good, oh, ever so good. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Thank you Jerry. This is just a smidge of seven or eight pages of scribbles...knowing my tendency to throw everything on a page, I just lifted one or two phrases out of that mess and this is what came out. I should edit more often? I hope you're well and happy m'friend. |

Ah, Poppy, I am honored then. And welcome to Passions in Poetry! and just waving my gratitude to you all yet again. I'd say I missed writing but I never really stopped. I did miss the encouragement of you all very much, however. Writing can be very lonely business, and posting my offerings and getting feedback enhances me personally. The writing seems to stay the same though. I love and appreciate you all much. And again, welcome Poppy |

Hit a wrong button on a lengthy reply (Windows 7 again--I don't seem to be adapting very well) Special welcome hugs to Poppy! And my continued gratitude to you all. |

As usual. I'm late getting to this... (working a million hours a weeks has that effect I guess) but I'm glad I didn't miss it all together. You still got it when it counts, Karen. Love the ashes falling/landing in the lap, and the effect of it. Michael |

"she peeled the parchment's memory and she exhaled her urgency" Excellent write! Your emotion was felt throughout the entire read but this line was exceptional. Enjoyed the read. JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |
