Felt like bringing this very oldie back. Helps remind me how far I have come. Carnival is here. Crowds jam the street with laughter. He plays solitaire Sits by the window In a smoky, crowded bar. Life passes him by High above the street A lonely window shines bright. Love is sold tonight. Crumpled note on floor Tells the story of love gone. Time now for dying. ©February 18, 1980 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

sounds like an old bar I knew ... good piece my friend. Actually sounds like Artie's Bar just up from the Municipal Auditorium ... many years ago. j. |

I wish I had entered the name of the bar when I wrote this, but I didn't and thirty-some odd years later, J, I don't remember it. It was on Magazine Street in the eighties, so you can figure out the skuzzy part. It catered to merchant marine people and its name had to do with the sea, Anchor Inn, or something like that. Thank you for stopping by, it is very much appreciated. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Blues, no I am not the same man I was then, I would, in reality be dead if I were. Thank you very much for reading "Four Pieces," and commenting in them. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

You have indeed shared your life with us in a gutsy, gritty, intimate way. It has been a unigue and genuine pleasure getting to know you as we walk along your words with you. Lori |

The second read grabbed deeper than the first. I could almost hear the carnival and the all too quiet solitude despite the environment. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
