PAUSE
5 October 2012

It was that single note
of some song
she heard
that stopped her breath,
and she and time
blended into a forgotten sculpture. . .

and chimes of beloved clocks long stilled,
and fragrances of night flowers
as milky as the moon,
and poetry so sweet on the tongue
to make her cat purr louder
and her dog nuzzle closer,
and rough barked trunks
which pressed their secrets
into her adoring hands,
and little waves rushing
their salt-water horses
on to the beach
under the stars,
and shadow whispers
and sunshine touch,
pervaded her mind
and her heart
and her smile . . .

for a moment,
that night
of recall.
