Invisible No one ever sees me, they only hear my voice. So busy looking through me, I guess they have no choice. But, truthfully speaking, I do feel a pain Each time I have to watch another person strain... Just trying to acknowledge my existence, Fumbling for words with such dire persistence. Still, at times, I watch their happiness and I know It's not something that should have to be worked so Hard for – (the envy that strikes at me, Wishing I was more like them, almost constantly). ...Having never felt the satisfaction Of being understood, or interaction On the same level as anyone, Or maybe even just experiencing fun.... As I struggle to accept my own company, And wonder if that could ever be enough for me? I reach out anyway, what's left if I don't? Hoping for a miracle, but probably won't Ever be given the chance to start anew, No footprints – no signs of life, who else even knew? I'm probably only getting my just deserts, For wanting to feel anything, even if it hurts... That hope, I may yet I'll feel alive, I still glean; Choosing to be invisible, wishing to be seen. Difference in people AND circumstances, Michael, but I was so far down at one point in my life I walked midway across the Mississippi River Bridge in New Orleans prepared to take that fatal step off it. I didn't, of course, and when I walked back to New Orleans the very next day I met someone who saved my life, because4 I would have eventually stepped off that bridge. Don't give up. ~*~ If they give you ruled paper write sideways. ~*~ |

Flowing and provoking... The last line especially captures me. Thank you for the contemplation. -MVS You CAN make a difference, but first you should learn how: |

"Choosing to be invisible, wishing to be seen." Roller-coaster ride - I say: go ahead and eat your desert. There is more of you to be seen and heard and appreciated than there is a not-at-all. (No, to the invisible man) Enjoyed the read!! JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

Startime, as long as I'm breathing, I will be writing... one of the few things in life I am sure of. JP, as bleak as my poetry gets at times, it is the tool that allows me to bleed out those negative emotions. Please know I have no intention, nor even think about taking "that" step. I do note your encouragement, though, and heed it as much as possible. Thank you, friend, (and I'm glad you didn't take that step either). Mark, my pleasure. I'm glad you enjoyed the contemplation. Kat, not sure I can be happy you've felt invisible too, but I'm glad you enjoyed the read. JL, just say no, eh? I'll try my friend. thank you. Michael |

Choosing to be invisible, wishing to be seen. Your poems are intensely personal... but one of the things that makes them so powerful is your ability to invite the reader to ponder their own world as well as yours. Often, I've put my foot in it to the point where I wished to be invisible... as I'm sure most have. LOL But this perspective has such poignancy and pathos... and leaves me with the shiver of someone having walked right through me. |
