Out-Foxed By You Paced myself, in our waning years - thinking . . . slow down, don't love all at once, mete it out a little at a time, don't give her all, all at once , don't want her to think there's nothing more to come . . . Little did I know how alike we were . . . my stage by day, was yours by night . . . you and I withholding just so much, so the other wouldn't think the heart couldn't give anymore. But now, though your heart has lost it's light, your love still shines, holds nothing back in the little notes I find, in the house, the garage, when I cleaned out the car; in the new shirts I found in the closet, on your side . . . two pair of brand new socks, under the bed, the cards that have been coming, one each week, signed by you, from I know not where. Paced myself in our waning years - and still . . . out-foxed by you. © wesley james beard, jr. (rev) january 2012 --- Not about me... |

Well, that's a nice way to be out-foxed. Very heart-warming Mr. J. JL ![]() Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

Loved it all. The notes, etc. was a nice touch. It was the cards coming from you knew not where that is the mystery. I take it that she left, but if she is sending notes from somewhere else is she gone? Maybe I've read this wrong. At a cocktail party, one woman said to another, |

Thanks, JL ... glad you liked and read. Jerry... may have failed at it, but my intention through the line "though your heart has lost it's light," was that she'd died, and the cards coming, well, you know you can send mail of any kind to various locations (for a fee, I suppose) and have them mailed anomalously at specified times. So kinda the assumption I was making was that's what she did. Or tried to anyway without getting terribly wordy. Thanks for reading/commenting, my friend. j. |

Yeah, I thought about the delivery system, but missed the dying part. A bit confused I guess, I have major car trouble I think and my mind wanders there. At a cocktail party, one woman said to another, |

quote: This, dear Jimmy, reflects so well a certain behaviour in love matters to which many surely can relate. Sometimes we hold back because we fear we can't live up to our partner's expectations which grow according to our words or viceversa we fear the other will not live up to our own expectations, despite the offered reassurance. Mysterious messages in whatever form they arrive are always a welcome surprise, as they confirm the fact that we are not forgotten. This is a great reminder to obey our heart's voice, as it could suddenly be too late. Margherita |

You elicited tears this time.... Bittersweet poignance cling to the page, and the tenderness survives all. What a treasure, those notes...smart lady to let you know she is still giving you her heart, still keeping company! Love this poem and I have to print it out... ![]() |
